Sainsbury's is trialling eCommerce in China using Alibaba's online platform, selling a number of branded products including So Organic and Taste the Difference.

The grocer is using Alibaba’s Tmall website to sell a number of ambient products to the Chinese online market including its So Organic and Taste the Difference ranges.

The retailer said classic components of the British afternoon tea including speciality teas, coffee and biscuits are available on the website, as well as its branded Little Ones baby products.

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "We are trialling a small number of ambient products for sale on the Alibaba platform, including So Organic and Taste the Difference lines, for sale through the Chinese online market."

Sainsbury's as been working on the launch with Alibaba for several months and the website launched softly earlier this week.  

The grocer has confirmed it is not planning on opening any retail stores in the region.
