Formalwear retailer Moss Bros has appointed a new head of eCommerce, with previous incumbent Neil Sansom stepping up to take on a wider omnichannel director role.

The London-based business has recruited former My-Wardrobe online boss Matt Henton to run its eCommerce operation, as it looks to develop a number of new digital projects in the coming year.

Henton, who will work as part of Sansom's team, left My-Wardrobe at the end of last year following the company's collapse and subsequent sale of its online assets to Net-a-Porter Group.

The new recruit has always worked in digital roles and was marketing director of spare parts e-tailer eSpares between 2008 and 2012.

By its own recognition, Moss Bros was late developing its eCommerce proposition, but it has since embarked on a number of projects that aim to combine the best of its store proposition with its burgeoning online platform.

Sansom told Essential Retail last year that the business is working on a strategy that could see the retailer open digitally-focused stores which would provide its customers with access to online ranges and click & collect services.

The concept would allow the retailer, which has stores predominantly located in London and south-east England, to take its brand into new UK markets with a smaller property footprint and an eCommerce focus.

Moss Bros said at the end of 2014 that like-for-like sales for the 45 weeks to 6 December were up 7% year on year, with the group set to announce its preliminary results for the full year on 25 March 2015.
