Office and business supplies business Staples has teamed up with technology company 3D Systems to offer a 3D printing experience in two of its prominent US stores.

From this week, the retailer's New York and Los Angeles stores will feature an immersive 3D printing experience centre, allowing consumers and small businesses to create personalised products and use the 3D printing hardware. Consumers can also bring in their own 3D print-ready files to have them printed in-store.

Visitors to Staples can use the facility to learn more about 3D printing, and each store will have a photo booth to capture customers' facial images for the purpose of personalising 3D products. Experts are on hand to help demonstrate the technology and answer any questions.

Items created using the 3D printing technology will be printed on site or through 3D Systems and shipped directly to customers' offices or homes.
