House of Fraser has appointed former Ministry of Justice digital service director Mark Madden to a newly created position within the department store's senior digital team.

Reporting to chief customer officer, Andy Harding, Madden joined the retailer earlier this month as head of digital products. Madden will lead House of Fraser's digital product, project and customer experience areas.

The appointment bolsters House of Fraser's digital team even further, as the department store retailer continues to put its customer at the heart of the business by driving multichannel and digital operations.

Madden delivered digital services for the Ministry of Justice as a contractor for almost a year, and prior to that he was contracted at TalkTalk as the telecoms provider's digital consultant. He was also contracted for five months at Boots as head of digital communications.

His last permanent position was head of digital customer experience at British Gas between 2011 and 2013.

Maden is the second notable government-to-public sector move this month, after the Co-op Group announced the appointment of former government chief data officer and executive director of digital, Mike Bracken, to a newly created chief digital officer role. But it has since been reported by Computer Weekly that Bracken will be working with the Group on a part-time basis three days per week.
