El Corte Inglés is set to launch a mobile shopping platform for its Portuguese market, working alongside technology company Grability.

The department store chain launched the mobile platform in its home market Spain in December 2014, and says it has already experienced an upturn in mobile grocery sales as a result of its work with Grability.

Grability helps fast-moving consumer goods brands create modern marketing within grocer's websites, using different means to traditional banner advertising. Partner brands include Coca-Cola, Unilever, P&G, Heineken, Oreo and Wrigley, which Grability helps with its uique form of mobile product placement.

Led by CEO Sebastian Mejia, Grability backers include Chris Burch, co-founder of Tory Burch, and Marcello Bottoli, operating partner at Advent International and former chairman, president and CEO of Louis Vuitton Malletier.

Pedro Barbosa, head of digital at El Corte Inglés in Portugal, said: "Grability is the easiest-to-use mobile shopping platform we've encountered, not just in Europe but around the world.

"It's exactly the kind of innovation we love to see – one which directly serves our customers by radically improving the shopping experience. We're very excited to expand the Grability technology into our eCommerce operations in Portugal."
