In-store technology, infrastructure systems, eCommerce, mobile retailing, digital marketing devices, supply chain solutions, analytics dashboards, loss prevention tools and payments innovation: it's all been on show this morning at RBTE, which runs until Thursday 10 March.

Oracle, Fujitsu, Samsung, JDA Software, Manhattan Associates, Wincor Nixdorf, Toshiba and PayPal are just a selection of the suppliers present at the two-day event, which is taking place at London Olympia.

Retailers have already hit Olympia in their thousands to attend Europe's largest end-to-end solutions exhibition and conference, and Essential Retail has heard from some of the tech companies involved in the proceedings.

Alongside its scanners and in-store tools, Zebra Technologies is introducing to market two new desktop printers that offer fixed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to help employees update product pricing, shelf labels and coupons in alignment with a store's merchandising and pricing strategies.

Mark Thomson, director, EMEA retail & hospitality at Zebra, says: "With the introduction of the new ZD410/ZD420 printers and the rest of our broad portfolio, Zebra is helping retailers improve associate productivity while delivering the right prices on the right items at the right times – capturing customer interest at key decision-making moments while protecting stores' profitability."

Meanwhile, newly-rebranded retail payment company Consolis – now operating as Lolly – says it has decided to "go rugged" at RBTE 2016. Working closely with its partner, the Windows-based tablet provider Linx, Lolly is launching a queue-busting mobile point of sale solution aimed at independent retailers.

Lolly says the new product will allow retailers and their staff to take orders, payments or issue refunds to customers anywhere on the shop floor, as well as demonstrate, cross- and up-sell products by showing videos of additional products or optional features on the device.

Star Micronics, which has exhibited at RBTE every year since the show's inception, is showcasing its mobile printers complete with new functionality.

Annette Tarlton, marketing director for Star Micronics EMEA, remarked: "By enhancing the functionality of its latest Bluetooth mobile printers, Star reinforces its market leading position within the MPoS marketplace with solutions that embrace the very latest in PoS technology."

Elsewhere on the expo floor, Ergonomic Solutions, which designs and supplies technology mounting, mobility and security solutions, is displaying its new SafeGuard Dock & Charge in the UK for the first time.

The company says the product can turn a static work station into a mobile platform, "in an instant".

For the first time this year, RBTE is running alongside the newly-created Retail Digital Signage Expo (RDSE), which although a standalone exhibition, acts as a conduit between the technology solution providers at RBTE and the design specialists at neighbouring expo, Retail Design World.

Pioneer LED is making its public debut at this year's RDSE, featuring various technologies including two portrait-style 65-inch LCD displays showcasing the latest in facial recognition software from Quividi. A live camera feed is being used to recognise stand visitors by age, gender, etc., and displaying customised content to them in real time.

Paul Childerhouse, group director of Pioneer Group, explains: "The implications for interactivity, LED, and facial recognition in retail are astounding – and the most successful brands will be those who tap into the opportunities those provide to best keep the customers engaged and interested in new and exciting ways.

"This opens the doors to a new world of digitally-enabled sales, hence why we're bringing such a range of jaw-dropping LED solutions to fuel tomorrow's retail experiences."

Quividi is part of the Intrepid Retail stable of solutions, which are on show in the main RBTE exhibition hall.

There is a live demonstration of Quividi running on the Intrepid stand, while the parent group is also using this week's show to launch its portfolio of retail tools, Vendiis, which incorporates RFID technology in a number of innovative up-selling and cross-selling systems for retailers.

On the stand, retailers can see demonstrations of the VLook display, product recommendation and cross-selling system, which provides an interactive in-store interface for shoppers.

Payment technology provider Zooz, which is back at RBTE again this year, has today announced that on-demand taxi service Gett (previously known as GetTaxi) now routes global transactions through its payments platform.

Gett can now tap into increased payment options, fraud prevention solutions, and Smart Routing from Zooz, which connects merchants to multiple financial institutions and chooses the optimal payment path for each transaction.

Oren Levy, CEO of Zooz, said: "The Zooz platform provides Gett management with intelligent analysis based on customer transactional data and offers drivers and passengers a smoother payment experience.

"Gett has rapidly grown into a formidable industry leader, and we look forward to supporting its continued international growth."
